11 Week Old Shiba Inu Puppy Being Very Aggressive and Bites my Family!

Puppy Issues

My family got a Shiba Inu Puppy about 3 weeks ago, and he was a cute, cuddly, and kind puppy when he first came. But after the first week, he changed 180 degrees. Now he bites and growls whenever he sees my 11 year old daughter, and corners her when he gets the chance which scares me very much. He has also bit her so hard that she has cried twice, and broke skin twice already. I know that all puppies go through a mouthing or teething phase, but is it normal for them to break skin at this early of an age? He also growls and barks at the family when we try to clean his paws, file his nails, brush his fur, and other times when we have to touch him in some way. This may be a second nature thing for dogs who don’t like to be touched in those spots, but is there a way to desensitize him to this, or even better, get him to stop doing this?

It isn’t normal for the dog to bite at humans, nibbling is one thing but your dog sounds like he is acting very aggressively. Your dog probably feels like your daughter is ‘lower’ in status than him, one way to get your dog to acknowledge that your daughter is also his master is by having your daughter provide the food for the dog and your daughter should participate in training. You need to establish that you and any household members are the dogs owners and masters, seek a local training class and you will see improvement right away.

As for your issues with barking/growling when you brush him, etc. try to introduce treats to the sessions. If the dog behaves he gets a treat. The more you groom and touch your dog the more he will become accustom to it.

I would definitely get a muzzle for the dog. It’s much better to be safe and ensure your dog doesn’t bite your daughter. With the muzzle you will be able to train your dog and get your daughter to help with the training without risking any nips or bites.

    Good luck!

If your puppy is becoming too aggressive just role a news paper and try to scare him but don’t hit him . Teach your daughter to firmly say NO whenever your puppy is doing something wrong and then give him a treat if he performs well. Always try to give him treats whenever he does anything good or as said by you.Try to give him obedience training from now on. You can go for many training videos available in YouTube or you can even go for expert trainer. Make one thing clear to him that you are his master he is not yours.
