There are all kinds of dog foods on the market.

What u want to do is steer away from a bunch of useless grains like corn and stuff.

There are some really good companies out there pushing really good food for your dog.

The one I hear about time and time again from all of my dog people is EVO. EVO considers the ancient diets of wolves and stuff and delivers the goods. High in protein, low in carbs and fillers, which is what a lot of these other companies are guilty of.

I’d like to know what u are already using. That way I have a better idea of what direction u need to go in.

Some people like to go with a completely raw diet. There are dog foods that you can buy that will do that for you, so you aren’t always camped out in front of the butcher’s shop.

Tony is right. Steer far far far away from grains like corn, wheat and soy. Sometimes I am at the supermarket and I just want to bust out with an air-horn and scream at the top of my lungs as I see what these people are feeding their dogs!

I was in Costco the other day and saw a dog food with its FIRST INGREDIENT as CORN. That was a definite air-horn moment.

If dogs are carrying around 99.0% wolf DNA, then that should be telling you something!
If dogs have fangs and not flat molars, that should be telling you something!

Dogs aren’t cats, so they can handle a little bit of the vegetation, but seriously…you need to think of your dog as a CARNIVORE more than an OMNIVORE or a HERBIVORE.

I met this guy a few weeks back. he had the most emaciated looking German shepherd I’d ever seen. I knew something was up, so I started to talk to him. Wouldn’t you know that this guy was a vegan and he was keeping his dog on a vegetarian diet. Come to think of it, they BOTH LOOKED EMACIATED lol. I almost stole his dog and went straight to the meat aisle of the local grocery store right then and there. DOGS NEED A DECENT MEAT DIET. Anyone who thinks differently is really arguing with mother nature and not me.

I like grain free foods, Taste of the Wild Dog Food is my favorite. It’s nice because it’s an all stages dog food and is good for puppies up to adults!

I agree with the grain free suggestion. Also I think it’s good to get American ingredients and American manufactured dog food, that way you know it’s good. Often times pet food made in China and South America isn’t manufactured to the same high standards American pet food is.

best dog foods are American ingredients nothing out sourced. and i prefer a grain free diet for my dogs they seem to do best on it. it also gives them a fabb coat that makes you want to pet them all day.

Hey Joey, I am having a hard time finding a grain-free dog food for my dogs. Do you have any suggestions? I have been using Purina Pro Plan because i’d heard good things about it, but I would like to get away from grains all together.

Be careful of a gluten free diet.

I have a friend who does the raw meat diet for his Mastiff and she LOVES it… and my poor golden/chow did NOT like it. I adopted my dog from the pound about 3 year ago and has been on the lamb/rice science diet dog food and the Grandmas Z’s Organic Lamb/veg dog food for about 2 years 11 months. The ONE month that I switched him to a gluten free dog food he had a terrible stomach reaction and had the runs for 3 weeks straight :(

I think the gluten free diet is a great idea, but if your dog has only had regular dog food be aware that their stomachs might not like it. I now do half and half and that has been working a lot better… maybe one day I will ween him off the lamb/veg but right now his stomach is still acclimating.
