I have this little Chihuahua puppy. He always sat around all day. He is five and a half weeks old. He never really walk around, he isn’t active like his sisters. We noticed he got really fat. We thought he had a brain problem. Till I noticed him walking, his walk was very strange. At first I thought it was because he was fat. I then examined him closer. I felt all four of his legs. It’s like he has no muscle on his legs at all! It seems he’s crippled. I compared his sisters legs to his and they have a lot more muscle then he does. He growls, and bites like a regular playful puppy, but he doesn’t move much, when I take him outside, he walks, but not very well. I just wanted to know what this is, and how I can help. I am very worried for him and want to help.

Hey! I got my Red doberman 2 years and 3 months ago as a puppy. I’ve raised him singlehandedly since then. He was neutered at 1 year 3 months old. At some point around a year and a half of age. He just didn’t enjoy playing with toys. He likes to chew on tennis balls until the pop but usually all he does is wraps up a blanket, and chews (more like pulses his jaw) on it for up to an hour. Although, he has done that with blankets almost his entire life. He is the most gentle and submissive dog but loves to play with other dogs of all sizes. He is fully sociallized and has never been aggressive towards any dog or human, but barks at every squirel he sees. The only thing he seems to enjoy doing is going for walks or going to the dog park to run and play with other dogs. He eats blue buffalo, he has never once tasted human food, and he gets hours of vigourous exercise every day (he is at home 6-8 hours alone every day but gets a walk in the morning and 2 hours of walks and the dog park when i get home from work) I do not use any physical force or raise my voice as a way of training him; But when I throw a ball or a blanket and say “go get it” he puts his ears back, his tail between his legs, and walks the oher direction or goes and lays down in a corner? He will always come when I say “come”. But is almost afraid to do anything related to playing. He brings toys to me often (when he isn’t sleeping or howling) and then drops them as soon as I grab ahold of them? Tug of war has always been equal and I’ve always been obliged to hold his bones from time to time. Yet he just refuses to do anything but play with other dogs, sleep, or chew on a toy alone until it is out of commision. Even when I give him bones, he usually just licks them for awhile and ditches them. I’ve even attempted soaking them in hot water. For some reason he is just always discontent and gets scared of played fetch regardless of my level of enthusiasm. After awhile of trying I usually just walk away. I do not know what else to try!! Someone please give your insight!?!?!?!

Help! Please! My dog is very afriad of going down our hardwood stairs. He has slipped multiple times and he is a very big dog so I cannot carry him. I have always caught him and guided him down, but it is a very scary situation for him. However, whenever we try to keep him downstairs for the night, he also seems scared to be alone. He will cry and cry. We tried to just let him cry for a while but he cried for about 45 minutes at which point he started howling. After that other dogs in the neighborhood began to hear him and started to bark and howl with him! For a while, he was very good about coming down. It would only take about five minutes to bring him down. But lately it has gotten very bad. I have had to try for 30-45 minutes. Sometimes I am unsuccessful and I have to wait a couple of hours until he has to go bathroom very, veyr badly then he will eventually make it down the stairs with another ten minutes of coaxing. Does anyone have any advice for what I can do?

Can someone please let me know if their dog is experiencing the same symptoms as mine. She’s a spayed 11 year old GSD, last monday she went off her food and started drooling we took her to the vet on tuesday who sedated her and did a oral exam and sample of lymph gland which was enlarged, (negative result) Vet said she had ear nose and throat infection and prescribed antibiotics and anti- imflams, took her back next day no improvement, vet said too early , so again took her back thursday still the same and now having stomach cramps. Gave her a pain killer to ease situation. Seemed to pick up and did have a small amount of food about 4OZ, on saturday and sunday, but stomach cramps became more severe Took her again monday vet said no temperature, gums healthy, lymph gland normal, listened to heart and lungs said fine and gave an antispasmodic injection plus another course of antibiotics and ant-imflams. Seemed fine for a few hours, but pains came back last night and were worse and more frequent. She has not been drinking or urinating excessively, has very loose motions but not diarrhoea am taking her back today to ask vet to do bloods and x-rays, but would appreciate if anyone else has had same symptoms?

My husband and I recently got a 3 month old Yorkie puppy. Having never had a dog before, this is NEW territory for us.

She is somewhat trained…can sit on command and lay down. She is also potty trained.

The problem…is that we both work long hours and are unable to be home with her a lot. This causes us both to feel guilty and we are at the point where we are unsure if we can keep her. She often has one “pee” accident while we are gone…but can we expect she hold it this long? She is left alone for on average 7-10 hours per day. Is this fair to her? Should we be looking for a new home. Friends have offered to take her because they are able to be home in the middle of the day…but we have grown attached to her and aren’t sure if this is “puppy” stuff or things that will not change over time.

Advice would be appreciated as this is such a difficult decision. Thank you!

She is an older dog and generally very obedient and well trained. However, with increased frequency, everytime the house is empty she goes in the basement. We put her our multiple times a day, take her for regular walks, and she isn’t allowed in the basement (she knows this too, I’ve never seen her go in the basement while people are home). Recently we’ve been able to leave for as few as 5 minutes and know there is a mess in the basement. We’ve tried leaving her outside while we’re gone, but still, every time we forget there is a mess. I’m really frustrated this because her spot of choice is my bedroom! I clean up as best as possible, tell her no when I find it. I just have no idea what else to do.

Other things: She is kind of an odd dog. She was afraid of going outside the first few months we had her. She loves going in car rides and feels acts rejected if we don’t let her go. She generally avoids going to the bathroom in the back yard unless she has to prefering to go on walks. Knowing all this though, we do take her for regular walks. She’ll make a mess even 20 minutes after we take her for a walk, so I know it’s not a desperatly needs to go situation. She is well trained, never has made a mess (ever) while someone was home. Very insecure dog in general.
