Worming pups

Asked by: 903 views Puppy Issues

My pit bull, Gloria just had a litter.  How soon should I worm them.  I read somewhere that all puppies are born infected.

the vast majority of pups do have worms, and should have been wormed every week from 2 weeks old to 8 weeks old for maximum health.

I have read that 90% of all dogs born are infected with worms passed on from the birth mother. This comes from generations of parasites working their way into every dog on the planet. Before 8 weeks old, you should talk to your vet about a worming. Have him do it. But there are some great over the counter worming products for after 8 weeks.

There are two kinds of worms that need to be addressed for puppies, Heartworms and intestinal worms. Heartworms are much more serious and require a monthly heartworm tratment, intestinal worms do pass from mother to child but can also be ‘acquired’ by the dog from other animals and some raw meats such as ground beef.
